Rod handles every step himself across the Mornington Peninsula: measure, design, build, install. No salesperson, no project manager, no subcontractor.

1

Free Measure & Quote

Rod comes to your home anywhere from Portsea to Frankston, takes precise measurements of your space, and talks through your storage needs, style preferences, and budget. He'll show you material samples and door finishes on the spot. No cost, no obligation, and you get a detailed written quote before he leaves.

2

Design & Selection

Choose your finishes, hardware, shelving layout, and door style. Rod guides you through every option so you're confident in the design. He'll recommend what works best for your space, whether it's a walk-in robe with feature lighting in Mount Martha or a practical built-in for a Mornington rental.

3

Custom Build

Every wardrobe is cut, edged, and assembled with quality materials in Rod's Mount Martha workshop. He uses proper cabinet-making techniques, not flat-pack shortcuts. Each component is built to the exact measurements taken in your home, ensuring a precise fit on install day.

Rod personally installs your wardrobe at a time that suits you, cleans up all mess and offcuts, and walks you through the finished product. About Rod

Mount Martha's Local Wardrobe & Cabinet Maker

I started The Wardrobe Guy in 2010 and have been building custom wardrobes and cabinetry for local families across Mount Martha, Mornington, Mount Eliza, Frankston, and right around the Peninsula ever since. It's just me. I quote, build, and install every job myself. No salespeople, no project managers, no subcontractors turning up at your door.

One phone call, one person, start to finish. You talk to me, I come out to your home on the Peninsula and measure, and the same bloke who built your wardrobe installs it. Nothing gets lost in translation between a salesperson and a factory. Every detail from our first conversation makes it into the finished product because I'm the one who heard it.

Every wardrobe is measured, built, and installed to fit your space. No production line, no rush jobs, no one-size-fits-all designs. Just a cabinet maker who treats your home like his own and takes pride in delivering a wardrobe that looks like it was always meant to be there.

FAQ

Wardrobe & Cabinet Making Questions, Answered

Straight answers from a Mount Martha cabinet maker who's been building wardrobes for local families across the Mornington Peninsula since 2010.

How long does a custom wardrobe take?
Most jobs take 2 to 4 weeks from measure-up to finished install, depending on the size and complexity of the project. A standard built-in robe with sliding doors might be ready within a fortnight, while a full custom walk-in with drawers, shelving, and feature lighting can take closer to 3 or 4 weeks. Rod works on his own in his Mount Martha workshop, so there's no waiting on subcontractors and no delays from third-party suppliers. He runs his own schedule and will give you a clear timeline when he quotes, so you know exactly when to expect him.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes, all wardrobes and cabinetry come with a 7-year workmanship warranty, and all hardware and materials carry their manufacturer warranties on top of that. Rod stands behind every job he does on the Mornington Peninsula. If something isn't right, he'll come back and sort it. In 15 years of operating across Mount Martha, Mornington, and the wider Peninsula, he's built a reputation on reliability and after-service care.
What suburbs do you service?
Rod covers the entire Mornington Peninsula plus South East Melbourne, roughly a 60 km radius from his base in Mount Martha. That includes all coastal suburbs from Portsea through to Frankston, plus inland areas like Cranbourne, Berwick, Pakenham, Narre Warren, and Dandenong. . Free measure and quote within this area, and Rod travels to you at a time that suits.
Can I supply my own handles or hardware?
Absolutely. If you have specific handles, soft-close hinges, or hardware you'd like used, Rod is happy to work with them. Just let him know when he comes out to measure and quote. He can also recommend trusted local suppliers on the Mornington Peninsula if you're not sure where to source quality hardware, and he'll advise on what will work best with your chosen wardrobe design.
Do you do insurance or repair work?
Yes, Rod does repairs and replacements on existing wardrobes and cabinetry across Mount Martha, Mornington, Frankston, and the broader Peninsula. Insurance jobs are handled case by case. Whether it's water damage to existing cabinetry, a wardrobe that needs reconfiguring, or replacing worn hardware and doors, and he'll talk you through the options and provide an upfront quote.
How does payment work?
A small deposit secures your spot in Rod's schedule, with the balance due on completion and your sign-off. No progress payments, no hidden fees, and no surprises. The price Rod quotes is the price you pay. He provides a detailed written quote after the free on-site measure, covering materials, labour, and any hardware or accessories you've chosen, so everything is transparent from the start.
What materials do you use?
Rod uses 16mm and 18mm white Melamine Faced Chipboard (MFC) as the standard for wardrobe interiors and shelving, with colour-matched 1mm ABS edging for a clean, durable finish. For doors and visible panels, options include textured melamine, matte or gloss vinyl wrap finishes, and timber-look laminates. All materials are sourced from reputable Australian suppliers and selected for durability in local conditions. Rod will walk you through the options when he measures up so you get the right finish for your home and budget.
Do I need council approval for a built-in wardrobe?
In almost all cases, no. Built-in wardrobes and cabinetry are considered interior fit-out and don't require council permits anywhere on the Mornington Peninsula or in the City of Frankston, Kingston, Casey, or Greater Dandenong council areas. Rod has been installing wardrobes across these municipalities since 2010 and is familiar with local requirements. If your project is unusually large or involves structural changes, he'll let you know during the measure-up so there are no surprises.
